Marked By His Mercy

“Oh God, wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:2 NASB).

You walk toward me in Your Radiance and mark the sign of the Cross over my heart with Your thumb.

I’m standing in the Presence of Peace.

“I do believe. Help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24 NAB).

You mark me with the sign of the cross, and the Angel of death passes over me. You stand before me with Your mercy streaming forth, blood and water pouring out from Your Heart, light flooding the room, flooding my soul. Your sign speaks, “This one is saved.”

Your mercy is here for me today. It is tangible; it is accessible. This is reality. Despite whatever distance I may imagine, You tell me to trust in your mercy so much that not even sin can separate us. I trust that your mercy is just as present today, just as willing to be poured out as it has been in the past. You do not change; Your mercy has not changed.

This is Heaven’s Fountain – the Heart of Mercy opened and poured out. You speak to me tenderly, “I have…had My Side pierced by a soldier’s spear in order to open for you a wide entrance to My Heart, and to show you how great was the love which led Me to die for you…I have caused Blood and Water to flow from My Side after my death…In this way, by virtue of the Sacraments contained in this Blood and this Water, I have set you free and given you innocence again” (Dom Henry Arnold 60).

"My soul be at rest in God alone, from whom comes my hope" (Psalm 62:6 NAB).
